Theme Park FAQ

We answer common questions about theme parks.

View all FAQs

Can theme park trips be relaxing?

Yes, with expert planning and naps.

Is it too much with little kids?

Not if we help. We know the insider tricks for stress-free family magic.

Which theme parks are there and how do they differ?

In the U.S., Disney has Walt Disney World Resort in Florida (with four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom) and Disneyland Resort in California (with Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure). Each park offers different attractions, shows, and themes.

Universal Orlando Resort (Florida) has Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay (a water theme park).

Universal Studios Hollywood (California) has one main theme park and a working movie studio tour.

Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

Yes, it’s highly recommended. Tickets often sell out, especially during peak seasons. Disney now uses a reservation system at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, so you’ll need both a valid ticket and a park reservation.

Are there express passes?

Genie+ is a paid service that allows you to skip regular standby lines for many attractions by reserving return times through the Disney app. Individual Lightning Lane purchases are available for select high-demand rides.

The Universal Express Pass is a paid add-on that allows you to skip the regular lines at most attractions. There are two options: one-time-per-ride or unlimited use. Availability is limited and prices vary by date.

How much time should I plan for a theme park trip?

For Disneyland in California, 2–3 days is usually enough. For Walt Disney World in Florida, many guests spend 5–7 days to experience all four parks.

Universal Orlando: 2–3 days minimum to see both parks fully (plus an extra day if visiting Volcano Bay).

Universal Hollywood: 1–2 days is usually enough.

Are character meet-and-greets available?

Yes for both.

At Disney, characters appear at designated spots throughout the parks. Some restaurants also offer character dining experiences where favorite Disney characters visit your table.

At Universal you can meet characters from movies like Minions, Transformers, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter. Times and locations are posted in the park and app.
